Signed Order Repealing Condemnation Order

On May 7, 2024, the Belfast City Council took a decisive step by signing an order that repeals and vacates the previous condemnation order from August 12, 2021 that claimed Jeffrey Mabee and Judith Grace’s land for Nordic Aquafarms to access the Penobscot Bay. This important document marks the culmination of persistent efforts to correct a significant oversight and uphold the rights of the community. It marks the protection of the bay from 7.7 million gallons of discharge a day. It marks the continued preservation of the Harriet L. Hartley Conservation Area. It is not just a document; it's a testament to the power of vigilant advocacy and community action. Please find attached the Signed Order for review and further action. Together, we continue to protect the environment against undue influence and ensure our voices are heard and respected.

While we celebrate this significant achievement, it's important to recognize that the journey isn't over. The repeal of the condemnation order is a crucial victory, but challenges remain as we continue to safeguard the community and environmental assets through legal avenues. We must stay alert and prepared to respond to any new developments or attempts to advance projects that do not align with the community's best interests. Let's remain united and proactive, ensuring that all future actions continue to reflect the collective will and welfare of Belfast and Northport residents. Our vigilance is essential as we move forward, making sure that every step taken respects the community's integrity and the environment we cherish.
