Press release: One step closer to justice — Belfast city attorney acknowledges Mabee-Grace ownership

[Thursday, May 23, 2024. Belfast, Maine.] Late yesterday evening attorney Kristin Collins agreed with HLH attorney, Kim Ervin Tucker, that the Belfast City Council’s (BCC) vote to vacate its August 12, 2021 condemnation order means that title to the intertidal mudflats coveted by Nordic Aquafarms, Inc. returns to owners Jeffrey Mabee and Judith Grace.

“That is my understanding of the effect of the recorded order.” attorney Collins wrote in her 4:43 p.m. reply to Kim Ervin Tucker’s request that Collins state her position on the Council’s May 7th vote. Images of the email exchange are below.

Attorney Collins’s “one-liner” marks another milestone in our 6-year struggle to defend Jeffrey and Judith’s property and the conservation easement that we hold to sustain it in its natural state. We are grateful for the Council’s vote, the support from our community, and the associated efforts by like-minded organizations such as Upstream Watch, Local Citizens for Smart Growth, and others.

Email from Attorney Kim Ervin Tucker to confirm the vacating of the Condemnation Order.
